It had been 2 years since I had taken Honors biology; so many things have left me since then about Biology. I remembered evolution and adaptation but that was about it The themes of biology are Science as a Process the fact that science includes repeatable observations and a testable hypothesisEvolution the biological change of organisms that occurs over time, driven by the process of natural selectionEnergy transfer when energy is continually being exchanged between members of an ecosystem and their surroundings [carbon cycle and cycling of nutrients]Continuity and Change how species maintain themselves from generation to generation using evolution, causing diversity and unity.
Three main domains of life: Levels of ecological organization: Pure science is discovery simply for finding answers, while applied science is Ap biology biochemistry technology to improve the quality of life.
The second topic that we discussed in Biology class was the overview of life which concerned the Characteristics of Life composed of cells, growth and development, metabolize, respond to stimuli, locomotion, reproduction, adaptation.
Another thing that was discussed during this section was the Scientific Method Statement of the problem, Hypothesis, Method, Results, and Conclusion. The scientific method will be used throughout the whole AP Biology course so it was an important concept to learn.
We also learned about the types of Chemical Bonds such as Covalent, Ionic, Hydrogen, Covalent is the sharing of electrons between atoms. Ionic bonds which are formed due to attraction between a cation and an anion. Hydrogen bonds are formed between an atom with a partial negative charge and a hydrogen atom covalently bonded to oxygen or nitrogen.
Easily formed and broken. Individually hydrogen bonds are weak, but stronger in large numbers. The Importance of Water was another topic discussed. Some of the main points from these lectures are the following.
Water molecules are polar, which results from hydrogen bonding. There are many properties to water, cohesion a property of water that lets water molecules stick togetheradhesion clinging of water to another substancesurface tension a measure of the force necessary to stretch or break the surface of a liquid.

Water moderates temperatures on earth; water has a relatively high specific heat. We learned that water is the "solvent of life".
A solution is a liquid that is completely homogeneous mixture of two or more substances, a solvent is the dissolving agent, and the solute is the substance that is dissolved. In an aqueous solution, water is the solvent.CB AP Biology Practice exam-- This is how to download the practice exam from the CollegeBoard Audit site.; Lab Review PPT-- a PPT that reviews each of the AP "Dirty Dozen" labs and reviews past essay questions that target them.; Lab Essay Questions These are sample essay questions related to the 12 AP Biology Labs.
